The Challenge
We saw strong interest in player profiles, yet the number of users adding video to their profiles remained low. To improve this metric, we set out to understand and address the challenges preventing users from adding video.
Our Solution: Video to Profile
We hypothesized that if users successfully add just one clip, they would be more likely to add more over time, increasing engagement. With this in mind, we optimized the first-time experience, guiding users through a smooth, intuitive process:
1. Selecting a match from which to pick a clip.
2. Choosing a specific clip.
3. A skippable enhancement step where users could add telestration and ability tags.
By simplifying the journey and providing clear guidance, we made it easier for players to see the value of adding video to their profiles – ultimately increasing adoption and engagement.

Scope
Since we didn’t know exactly why users weren’t adding videos, we needed to speak with them to uncover the root cause. Was it a lack of understanding about the process? Did they not see the value in it? Or was something else creating friction?

Process
Through user interviews, we discovered that what we initially thought was a simple flow was actually too complex. Several barriers prevented users from seamlessly adding videos to their profiles. Because player profiles were just one part of the larger Veo ecosystem, we analyzed the entire journey – from account creation to video uploads – to identify key obstacles. Some of the main challenges included:
• Players needed recorded video before they could add anything to their profiles.
• Video had to be uploaded to the platform.
• Video needed to be analyzed before it could be used.
• Players required editor access to work with the video (edit, add clips, etc.).
• Many users weren’t aware that Player Profiles existed.
• Players had to create a profile before they could add clips.
• The process of adding clips to profiles wasn’t intuitive.
Recognizing some of these barriers required collaboration across teams, we engaged with other departments to explore solutions. While some improvements needed greater investment, we focused on the areas we could enhance immediately.
One key insight was that users found the clip-adding process unintuitive, so we prioritized improving this experience.
